Practicing Self Love Past Valentines Day

We've just passed the time of the year when love comes to front and center, when it's on everyone's mind and we can't stop thinking about it. The shelves at the drugstore are lined carefully with different colored teddy bears, and themed boxes of heart shaped chocolates. Whether you're in a relationship, single, or 'it's complicated', it's a time to remember the importance of giving love to others, but also giving love to ourselves. Self-love looks different for everyone, and there are so many different ways to practice it and be good to yourself.

So, even though the official holiday has passed and we are moving into spring and new beginnings, don't forget to continue to practice self love throughout the entire year. Intimately isn't just about making the best disabled lingerie or adaptive underwear, but also providing you with the best empowered disabled community. If you're looking for a new way to show yourself some love, look no further! In this post we're going to go over some of our favorite ways to show self-care.

1. Start each day with affirmations, or one thing you love about yourself.

Often we don't realize that the way we speak to ourselves matters so much to our mental health. Taking time to say out loud a few things you love about yourself, or some positive affirmations, you'll really begin to absorb what you're putting out there and what you're telling yourself.

2. Nourish your body

Take time out of the day to listen to your body and what it needs. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our busy lives that we forget to listen to our bodies, and that can make all the difference. Make sure you're being conscience of your body and loving it.

3. Learn to say NO

The Liberare community is full of empowered and incredible women with disabilities who share their stories and experiences, and we're well aware that our readers have amazing ambition and drive. However, we've all experienced that feeling when we've taken on a little too much, and the stress gets to us. Everyone needs a break in order to stay healthy and happy, even if you've got lots of awesome things to work on.

4. Tune out and Inwards

Technology can be an awesome way to stay connected with others and get things done, however social media can be a little too distracting sometimes. Remember that social media is not reality, and it's good to remember to let it go every once in a while, and stop comparing yourself to others on apps. Find something to do that's not on your phone, whether that's talking to a friend, reading a book, or listening to some music.

5. Write It Down

Keeping our thoughts inside can be draining, and often we're having feelings that we don't even recognize. However, for the disabled community journaling doesn't have to mean writing in a notebook. You can use voice texting, typing, or touch assist on a tablet.

These forms of self love or self care aren't for everyone, and sometimes they vary depending on what kind of mood we're in. However you like to remember to love yourself is great, as long as you're taking the time to appreciate yourself.
